Visitor Guidelines
The Monastery of the Dormition of the Theotokos is a place for repentance and prayer for priests and believers. As a sign of respect for the Theotokos, the patroness of the monastery, and in reverence for this holy place, we request your commitment to modesty in dress code and behaviour at all times
Visitors are kindly asked not to enter the monks' quarters; men are not allowed into the women's quarters, and vice versa
Please avoid gathering in front of the monks' quarters after prayer times and maintain silence, especially after the ringing of the silence bell at 20:30
Please refrain from bringing food into the cells and maintain cleanliness
Visitors are encouraged to assist with monastery tasks silently and prayerfully after receiving a blessing from the Guestmaster
Women are not permitted to enter the kitchen but may assist from outside in meal preparation, laying the table and cleaning only
Access to the kitchen and work areas is restricted to those who have received a blessing
Please adhere to designated prayer and meal
times, entering the church in tidy attire
Please turn off your mobile phones and refrain from taking photos during services and meals, except those who have been given the blessing to do so. We also ask you to participate silently in services and to listen attentively to spiritual readings at the table
The Holy Communion is truly the body and blood of Christ, sanctifying those who approach it with spiritual readiness and piety, providing them with sustenance for eternal life. However, it also serves as a consuming fire for those who approach unworthily (Saint Symeon the New Theologian – Pre-Communion Prayers)
Therefore, we urge Orthodox believers to prepare by confessing and receiving the blessing from their spiritual father before approaching Holy Communion. They should also follow the fasting rules set by the holy fathers
When approaching the Holy Communion, please cross your hands over your chest and open your mouth wide to allow the priest to place the communion spoon into your mouth, close your mouth over the spoon and allow the priest to remove it from your mouth leaving the Precious Body and Blood
Since Holy Communion follows the confession of the one faith handed down by the apostles, preserved without alteration by our Orthodox Church, and expressed particularly in the Symbol of Faith, we regretfully cannot offer the sacrament to non-Orthodox individuals
After the communion, the faithful receive the antidoron. Those who have not partaken may receive it after the dismissal
